September 2002 News

September 7 & 8, 2002

Wow, the Summer heat made a return this weekend with temperatures in the 90's all weekend. We went out in the qualifying heat starting in the 6th spot and managed to finish 2nd. This would set us in the 9th starting spot in the feature on Sunday. The track was hot & greasy but John managed to make a few great moves to end up finishing 4th. With only 2 points races left, John sits 6th in the standings. With a little luck and some good finishes breaking into the top 5 is a definite possibility. If you haven't come out this season you don't have much time left....

We were pretty good in practice which built our confidence for the rest of the night. We went out in the qualifying heat and started 6th, there was a lot of bumping & banging up front so John gave up a handful of spots & let em fight it out and then made his moves and got the car back up to 4th. This would start John 10th in the feature. The car was decent but the handicapping system makes for a nail biting first few laps with all the slow cars up front. John sliced & diced but couldn't find or make a hole through the mess in the early going. Finally a break in the mess and John put the heat on and worked up to 4th with a definite chance for 3rd & 2nd but the blocking was too much. Then came a restart with 5 laps to go, now was John's chance to get to the top but a missed shift on the restart cost him his chance... We wound up finishing 5th. Confidence is high that we will get a win before this season is over! Only 1 points race left this Thursday night Sept. 19th. If you haven't made it down to the track this season your time is running out.....

It was the final regular event of the 2002 race season. We were fast in practice and confidence was high that we might finally get the much needed win. We started 14th in the feature through handicapping. When the green flew John was on the move. On the 3rd lap the 78 car made a careless 3 wide move and sent John spinning into the infield. The flagman never threw the caution before John got going again and by then he was down a lap. John maintained a top 10 spot in the pack but was actually much further back by score because of being that 1 lap down. 21st was where we finished. The only positive of the night was that we did score enough points to break the top 5 in the final standings! Thats it for the season with the exception of The World Series of Auto Racing at Thompson in late October. Stay tuned for more info later.
